Stereotyping, Racism and Discrimination
While at the galleries, I was looking in particular for any pieces that reflected what I was looking at in my own artwork. There were very few, however, there were a couple of paintings that I found really interesting.
There were a couple of artists or pieces that caught my eye for the style and the colours used.
L.S Lowry
What I liked about these pieces were the colour scheme, and the busy scene he depicted, while at the same time, it seemed a lot empty because of how the colours got paler in the background. I liked the depiction of street life and the bustle of people.
Andy Warhol
After learning about Warhol throughout school, I have grown to dislike his work, however I do like the colours that he uses. I particularly liked the pieces I saw at the Manchester Whitworth that were of two colours, and that also had glitter on them, just because I never thought it to be something that Warhol would do.
Finally, this piece related directly to my subject matter, and was extremely eye-catching, placed in the Whitworth at the top of the wall on a large scale. The colours used were very bold and stood out against the cream paint of the wall it was hung on.
