Using Literature
Since I was so confused with my work, and were trying to do too many things at once, I decided to step back and look at the manifesto piece I had originally started with, and then develop it later.
To help me along, I decided to start looking at literature and films that have topics that correlate with the content of my manifesto, such as To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and The Diary Of Anne Frank.
I wanted to focus on these particular types of literature as it gives me an insight into the different types of prejudice, racism and stereotyping over different times throughout history, whether it be a fictional piece, or an actual account of the things that were happening.
One of the films I am going to watch, and also buy the book of, is A Taste of Honey by Shelagh Delaney.
Some of the films I have watched with themes entered around discrimination, racism and stereotyping were The Green Mile and Spirits' Homecoming.
The reason I am looking at literature to help me along is so hat I can illustrate or create art pieces by taking scenes, sentences and quotes from books that allow my theme, which will eventually help me to come up with idea's, hopefully, as I am doing it. This way, I can begin to find my feet properly with what I'm doing, as well as find a material tat I particularly enjoy working with.
This will be a continuation of my experimental phase.
The books and films I will be looking into will focus on various aspects of my topics, not just the very obvious ones, and am open to watching foreign films to accomplish what I am hoping to achieve. I will also conduct various research into the topics I am looking into to help me further, and so that I am not just relying on books and films, while the are a good source for research.
