El Anatsui



El Anatsui is a Ghanian sculptor active for much of his career in Nigeria born in 1944. He creates distinctive large scale assemblage of thousands of pieces of aluminium sources from alcohol nations, sewed together with copper wire.
His sculptures "draw connections between consumption, waste, and the environment."
He as born in the Anyako, the Volka region of Ghana, and trained at the College Of Art, University of  Science and Technology in Kumani, central Ghana.
He began teaching at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1975, and became affiliated with the Nsukka group.
