Artist research

Yago Hortal

Yago Hortal is a Spanish born artist, born in Barcelona in 1983.
He works by creating colourful smears of paint that sometimes transgresses the canvas.

The reason I like his work so much is because I tried a similar technique in the past, and found it to be really relaxing. It is a technique where there is limited control in terms of how the paint will blend together, which is what I like about it. It has a simplicity to it that doesn't require slaving over a piece for hours, which I cannot do, and creates some beautiful and bold patterns.

I aim to experiment further with this technique to see what outcomes I get, and to see if it is something I really enjoy doing, as so far, using paint as a medium is very tedious for me.
