Mash-up's

This Mash-up was created using found video's from the internet. Originally, I had started with the intention of mashing up two of Audrey Hepburn's films into one, but settled only on using one when I realised how long the video was getting a I was editing it. 

The video consists of numerous clips with varying volume, depending on how important the clip was to the video, and also includes slowed down clips to emphasise moments within the video. 

It wasn't until later that I decided to add in some music. Originally I was using the soundtrack for the film 'My Fair Lady, from where most of the video clips came from, but I changed it when I decided that I wanted to mash-up two completely different things together. 

I thought about which song I could use, that would be impactful and contrasted highly against the video I was creating. Eventually I chose to use Hotline Bling by Drake. 

Strangely enough, the two went together rather well, and with some slight adjustments, I was able to move the clips sound and adjust the sounds and speeds so that it fit the music well. 

I a happy with my mash-up (as a first attempt) and will try things like this in the future. 

Incorporating Moving Images Into Installations

Since we have been looking into creating moving image art pieces during our media sessions, We were asked to think about ways in which we could incorporate these moving images into our artwork. Since I have done a video installation before, I am developing what I did by thinking about how I could incorporate it into my artwork, rather than by creating a video installation to stand alone.

Collecting Moving Images

Video Installation Material

I have collected different moving images that I could possibly make into a small video intended for an installation.

If I am to make a video installation, I wish to make something using bubblegum colours. The clips I have collected do not fit the theme, but could be edited to fir using different effects and filters.

The clips I have collected use the most accessible thing I could find, which is just plants found around the building.

After putting all of the video clips into Premier, I sifted through them to decide what I wanted to you. I decided that, since all of the clips have various colours in them, I wanted to focus on pulling similar colours together. I started with the clip 'Fleur' because I liked the bright yellow against the greyish green background.

I edited it a little, adding noise and varying the degree of noises I added to see how it would look, and added a twirl effect, which made the center of the clip twist in a spiral shape. Because of the movement of the flower in the clip, this gives it a bizarre appearance.
Going along with my theme of 'bubblegum' colours, I decided to try and change the colours of the clip. Eventually, i adjusted the RGB levels, and made the flower predominantly green.
Over this I added another clip, this time I decided that I wanted to add bright colours in rather than trying to match all of the colours together, so I added the clip 'Berry Good', which had a lot of red in it. I added the same effects, and adjusted the colours so that the red was a lot more predominant. I adjusted the opacity and set it behind the first clip.
Lastly, I added the clip 'Purp Fleur', and added the same effects, but adjusted the RGB levels so that the blue was more obvious. I set this behind the other two.

Overall, I like the way the video looks, as it is very bright and colourful, but I do feel that it needs to be a lot longer, or should be played in a loop, especially if I were to put it in an installation.

Video Installation

Since I have experimented with video installation, I started looking for other places that would be ideal for video installation. Ideally, the place needed to be dark enough for the projection to work, however I feel that I could use a place that  receives some light, depending on what the installation's context was about.

The first place I looked at was the small space at the back on the 3D studio. When lit, the studio is very bright, and when the lights are off, the room becomes very dark. 

In this room, I feel that it could be a good idea to project onto the ceiling, which is made up of corrugated metal and beams. I feel that it would be a good place to project an installation if the topic was dark, industrial, or for contrast, something very bright and 'bubblegum'

The second place was in The Mount, which is a small studio space. Adjoined to this is a small 'conservatory'. I thought about projecting into a small space, as it would distort the image and mean that the viewer would have to move around to be able to see it, therefore meaning they have to interact. 

The last place was taking from my experimenting with installation, where i projected onto the ceiling, which hit the lights and distorted the image, as well as reflected light onto the walls. I like the effect it created, as it seemed to sparkle as the image changed. 

Some of the other places I chose to use was to project onto material, such as curtains and blinds, which would distort the image. When projecting onto blinds, it means that when the blinds are open, light would only show on the curtain panels, and would also be slightly distorted.
